There are many rooms in the
dollhouse.

Some are a little scary, like the trophy room.
It has dead animal heads all over the walls.
Hunting trophies.  The walls are deep red
colored like blood and the girl who lives in
the room wears a blood colored dress.

They are usually happy because it is Christmas, and at Christmas,
people are good and kind to each other.  Their names are Becky
and Hazel.

Becky has a mole on her cheek.  She likes to skate on a small ice
pond, and she feels like a princess when the animals and the
snowmen watch her.  Sometimes the snowmen clap for her, but only
when her back is turned.  By the time she turns around, the snowmen
are still again.  She bows to them, even when they are silent.

The other girl, Hazel, likes to lie in bed and dream about opening
presents, and how delicious Christmas dinner is going to be.

Sometimes Hazel is a little sad.  She misses her brother Hoon, who
is a soldier in a land far, far away.  Before he left, he made both of
them promise they would not get sad thinking about him.  Both of
them promised they wouldn't.

But they both miss him.  Hazel misses him the most, and sometimes
when she thinks of him she feels like crying.  Which is perfect for
Christmas because Christmas is the time of year you feel happy and
sad.

There is a girl who lives in their vanity mirror, but she is not there all
the time.  She just likes to drop in to see how they are doing.

In the background, music from
The Nutcracker plays.

Some are cozy, like the
cave.  It has bears in
rowboats and even a
picture window where you
can see the light coming in
from the outside.
Nothing like that happens in the snow room.  The snow room in the
dollhouse is the most peaceful.  That’s because in the snow room it is
always Christmas.
The snow room
looks like it could
be cold, but it is
not.  It feels like
the air conditioner
is turned up high,
but it is quite
comfortable.

The two girls who
live in the room
like to dress in
short pants and
skirts.  They never
feel chilly.
